Our Heritage

Our history traces back to Nelson Muffler which was established in Stoughton, Wisconsin in 1939 in the basement of a Buick garage. Nelson Muffler developed a leading position in the diesel and gas engine markets over the next several years, supplying exhaust mufflers to a wide variety of customers. The business grew rapidly during World War II, supported by increased demand from the U.S. government. This growth financed the construction of a facility in Black River Falls, Wisconsin in 1946. This was followed by the establishment of facilities in Viroqua in 1966 and Arcadia in 1979. Viroqua later moved to a new facility in 1977 and Black River Falls built a new facility in 1994.

Over time Nelson established itself as one of the nation’s leading providers of diesel exhaust components and served the commercial, agricultural, and recreational vehicle markets.

Cummins Engine acquired Nelson in 1997 and Nelson became known as the Exhaust division within Cummins Emissions Solutions. The international footprint was established in 1999 with the acquisition of a leading Exhaust components manufacturer in Australia and later that same year the formation of a joint venture in India.

In 2011 the Exhaust division of Cummins was sold to WindPoint Partners and Global Tube Form. Shortly after the acquisition the name changed to Nelson Global Products, Inc.

Global Tube Form was formed in 2010 by WindPoint Partners by acquiring National Tube Form, Southern Tube Form, and Peoria Tube Form. These companies included manufacturing in Fort Wayne, Indiana; Clinton, Tennessee; Peoria, Illinois, and Changzhou, China. These facilities were primarily tube bending operations.

In 2013 and 2014 our growth was primarily focused outside of the US as we established a greater presence internationally. In 2013 we added a facility in Brazil with the acquisition of Envall. In 2014 we added another facility in Brazil with the acquisition of TuboPress. We also moved into a new facility in Monterrey Mexico.

Recently we have continued to grow internationally by adding two additional manufacturing facilities in India to better serve our customers. A third facility will be added prior to the end of 2018.

Locally we also acquired GT Exhaust and Silex in 2015 and in 2016 added Tube Specialties (TSCO) to our company which included three manufacturing locations in North America.

In summary Nelson has a broad range of capabilities at each of our manufacturing facilities. This provides Nelson with significant manufacturing flexibility.
